Meet Leonice

A Licensed Mental Health Counselor and a Licensed Occupational Therapist.

Leonice Ferreira, LMHC & OTR/L

My name is Leonice, but in Brazil, where I’m from, everyone calls me Leo (LEH-oh). You’re welcome to call me that too.

I’ve always been drawn to both counseling and occupational therapy, and I began training in both around the same time. Life led me to focus on occupational therapy first, where I spent years working with children and families in their homes. Sitting on living room floors, I learned that meaningful change does not happen because life suddenly becomes easier. It happens through small, practical steps that fit into everyday life.

As my career grew, I was able to fully integrate my passion for counseling. I began my counseling work in a shelter supporting survivors of domestic violence, an experience that shaped the compassionate and thoughtful way I support people through difficult moments.

Today, I work with adults experiencing anxiety, ADHD, depression, stress, and emotional overwhelm. I also support people navigating life changes such as moving, changing careers, becoming a parent, ending a relationship, or adjusting to a new stage of life. Many of the parents I work with feel exhausted and emotionally drained as they try to care for themselves while managing the demands of raising a family.

In my pediatric occupational therapy practice, I work with children and their families on challenges that make everyday life harder. This may include sensory sensitivities to sounds, textures, or busy environments, as well as challenges with emotional regulation, attention, transitions, fine motor skills such as writing and buttoning, and daily routines such as getting dressed and eating.

My approach is practical and centered on each child’s strengths, needs, and interests. I work closely with parents to understand what is happening during difficult moments, how those moments affect the child and the family, and what helps the child feel more comfortable, confident, and successful. Together, we develop realistic strategies that fit naturally into everyday life.

If you’re looking for counseling for yourself or occupational therapy for your child, it’s okay if you’re not sure where to start. We can talk about what feels most difficult right now and work together to find practical ways to make everyday life feel more manageable.

You can start with a complimentary consultation or book your first session. I provide counseling and pediatric occupational therapy through telehealth in both English and Portuguese. In-home occupational therapy is also available for families in Massachusetts.

How I work

A few things that shape every session.

Honest about fit

If I'm not the right person for what you're dealing with, I'll say so early and point you somewhere better. I'd rather lose a client than waste your time.

Bilingual

Sessions are available in English and Portuguese, for adults and families.

Telehealth-first

All counseling is online. OT is available via telehealth and, in Massachusetts, in your home, where the real routines happen.

Trauma-informed

Whether we're working on anxiety, ADHD, or a child's sensory regulation, I bring a trauma-informed lens to everything.
